How to add your logo to the Shopify header
Open Online Store, then Themes, click Customize, and select the Header section. Upload your logo image there and set its width. Use a PNG with a transparent background at roughly twice the display size, around 400 by 120 pixels for a horizontal logo, so it stays sharp on retina screens.
Uploading the logo
In the theme customizer, click Header in the left panel, then Select image under the logo setting. Most modern themes, including Dawn, also let you set the logo width in pixels. Save and check the result on mobile, where a too-wide logo crowds the menu icon.
Image format and size
PNG with transparency is the safe default because headers change color between sections on many themes. Export at 2x the size you display: if the logo shows at 200 pixels wide, upload 400. Keep the file under 100 KB so it does not delay the first paint.
When the logo looks wrong
A blurry logo means the source file was too small. A logo that vanishes on certain pages means the section background matches your logo color; fix it with a logo variant that has contrast, or set a different header background for that template.
Frequently asked questions
- What size should a Shopify logo be?
- There is no single required size. A horizontal logo at about 400 by 120 pixels displayed at 200 pixels wide works in nearly every theme. Square marks around 400 by 400 work for stacked headers.
- Can I use an SVG logo?
- Some themes accept SVG through the customizer, others do not. If yours rejects it, use a high-resolution PNG or add the SVG through the theme code with an image tag.
- How do I center the logo in the header?
- Dawn and most Online Store 2.0 themes have a header layout setting with center options. Look in the Header section settings for desktop layout or logo position.
