# How do you add an FAQ accordion to a Shopify product page? | Theme Stack Guide

Most modern Shopify themes include a collapsible content or collapsible tabs block you can add to the product template in the theme editor. Drop the block near the buy button, add your questions, and you have an FAQ accordion with no code. For product-specific answers, use metaobjects or page sections instead.

## Why an accordion beats a wall of text

Shoppers have the same five questions on every product page: shipping speed, returns, sizing or fit, materials, and care. Putting all five as plain paragraphs pushes the buy button and trust content down the page, especially on mobile. An accordion shows the questions as tappable rows and reveals answers on demand, so the page stays compact while every answer is one tap away.

Placement matters more than styling. The accordion belongs within the first screen or two of the buy button on mobile. Answers hidden below three sections of marketing content might as well not exist.

## Option one: the theme's collapsible block

In the theme editor, open the product template and add a block to the product information section. Look for "Collapsible content," "Collapsible tab," or "Accordion" depending on your theme. Dawn and most themes built on its patterns have it. Add one block per question, or one block holding several rows, and type in your answers.

This is the fastest option and it works well when the answers are the same across products: shipping, returns, and care instructions rarely change. The downside is that the same questions show on every product page. If different products need different answers, you need option two or three.

## Option two: metaobjects for product-specific answers

Metaobjects let you store structured content, like question and answer pairs, and pull them into the theme with dynamic sources. Create a metaobject for FAQ entries, add entries for each question, then attach the relevant ones to each product through a metaobject reference field.

In the theme editor, connect the collapsible block to the dynamic source instead of typing static text. Now the ring product shows ring questions and the necklace product shows necklace questions, all from one template. This takes more setup than static blocks, but it scales: one template serves the whole catalog without duplicate work.

## Option three: a FAQ section on a page template

Some answers do not belong on the product page at all. Store-wide policies, sizing guides, and care libraries work better as a dedicated FAQ page built from collapsible row sections. Most themes let you stack collapsible content blocks on a regular page, which produces a clean FAQ page in minutes.

Link the product-page accordion to that FAQ page for the long answers. The product page covers the five questions that close sales; the FAQ page handles everything else. This split keeps product pages fast and focused.

## Content tips that actually reduce support tickets

Write answers in plain language and lead with the decision-relevant fact. "Ships in 2 to 3 business days from Portland" beats a paragraph about logistics philosophy. Put returns and sizing first, because those are the questions that prevent purchases. Keep each answer under 60 words: if it needs more, it belongs on the FAQ page.

Review your support inbox before writing. The questions your team answers ten times a week are the ones that belong in the accordion. An FAQ built from real tickets pays for itself; an FAQ built from guesses decorates the page.

Do I need an app for a product page FAQ?
: Usually not. Most current themes include collapsible blocks natively. An app only makes sense when you need advanced behavior like search within FAQs or video answers.

Can different products show different FAQ answers?
: Yes, with metaobjects and dynamic sources on one shared template. Static blocks show the same content on every product.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need an app for every store feature?

No. Cart attributes, metafields, and theme sections cover many common requests. Use apps when billing, accounts, or checkout rules are involved.

### Will adding fields slow my store down?

A simple cart field adds almost nothing. Heavy app scripts are the usual cause of slow product and cart pages.

### How do I test a checkout change safely?

Place full test orders through payment, fulfilment, and refund, and check admin, email, and packing slips at each step.
